Please be aware that this role requires you to relocate/go back and fourth to Karachi, Pakistan. You will be asked to observe and research as much as you can about the client's Vice Chairman. It is up to you whether you want to spend an entire year in Pakistan, or collect your research there within 3-4 months, and write up the draft in your own home country.

Working towards a PHD is essential

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

· Analyze materials such as family contracts, documents checking their authenticity, physical condition, and historical content.

· Preserve collections correctly and design and maintain organizational systems, keeping track of material. Most archived materials are stored on databases for easy usage and efficiency. Thus, the individual will prepare indexes, meta-tags and material descriptions and, where possible, convert material into digital format.

· The researcher will need to be able to multi-task, often answering questions or consulting on more than one project at a time. Some projects may require travel, and the researcher must be able to work on multiple projects while on the road.

· Research historians spend much of their time following up on leads and making sure requested information is received in a timely manner so as not to delay a project or deadline. Tracking requests, documenting timelines and checking on information bottlenecks play a large role in a researcher's day.

· Building relationships with sources is a key component of the role’s duties. A research historian may need to use the same source for more than one project, and displaying a pleasant demeanour during interactions will make the next contact easier

Skills

  • Assembling biographical materials from various sources (e.g., diaries, news accounts, personal correspondence, interviews)
  • Researching these biographical materials to gather a better understanding
  • Interviewing the subject of the biography
  • Applying psychological analysis and the subject’s environment in the portrayal of character
  • Working with editors, publishers, proof-readers and stakeholders
  • Marketing and selling the biographical work(s)
  • Extremely strong writing skills and should have written several books
